Essential reading before you arrive
Please take a moment to read through the information below on everything your day involves, what to bring with you, what equipment we provide and pricing.
You’re Going to Have a Great Day
Our Treasure Trails are more than just hiring an electric bicycle. Each group of Treasure Trail participants are given a Treasure Trail guide, offering you directional information to follow with questions and clues to answer along the way. These questions are largely observational based, asking you to pay attention to your surroundings. It offers a fun challenge for couples, small groups of friends and family and great days out for large groups including, corporate excursions, team building and stag and hen parties, who are all welcome. There are three Treasure Trails available from 2017. The routes are stunning, the bikes are amazing and the trail questions inject an interesting challenge and potential competitive edge to your day. Details for each route are presented below.
If a Treasure Trail is not for you we have also designed 3 other routes for you to follow. You will be handed directions and a map on the day. Recommendations for lunch will be marked on the map. Details for each route are presented below.
The final option is a tandem electric bike. This is a great alternative for less confident cyclists and children under 14 who are not allowed to ride electric bikes on their own. You can take the tandem on any of the routes detailed below. Book the tandem now.

Pedego Electric Bikes
They are bicycles with a motor assisted speed of 15.5mph, which only works when you pedal. There are a range of bike sizes and styles in the rental fleet, each person will be allocated a suitable bike on the morning of your booking.

Suitable for me?
All routes inevitably do go down and UP some hills. The bikes offer significant assistance but you will have to put some work in. We have had many people in their 80’s rent our bikes and thoroughly enjoy their day. However, if you have mobility and or health problems this may not be suitable for you. You need to be relatively fit and active.
When did you last ride a bike?
You must be able to ride a bike! This sounds silly but we have many people turn up in the morning having not ridden a bike for 30 years. Confidence to then go out for the day on an unfamiliar bike on unfamiliar roads is therefore not where it needs to be to safely head out for the day. This can result in you not being allowed out on the routes as it’s simply not safe.
If you have not ridden a bike for a while we recommend you get some practice in before you arrive. Get hold of a bike and ride it up and down your street for an hour. Such simple preparation can help you avoid disappointment. If you would like us to provide a private lesson please get in touch. We do offer private lessons.
You have to be 14 to ride an electric bike
Children between 8-13 years are suitable to ride on the rear of our tandem bike.
Children between 1-5 can use one of our child seats free of charge.
The best place to see more information on how easy the bikes are and how much you will enjoy it, is to read some of our reviews on trip advisor. It’s packed full of first hand experience from all sorts of people.
Suitable clothing and footwear
Wind chill on the bikes will play a part, even in the height of summer. Dress appropriately. You don’t do as much work on an electric bike as you do a normal bike so you won’t warm up as much. Gloves are likely to be needed to make you comfortable between October and March. Wind proof tops and trousers will keep you warm too. Bring layers, you can always take them off.
A Smart Phone
Your trail guides are equipped with a QR code. Please bring a smart phone with a QR code reader app (they are free) to scan the code and access your map online. This can help if you feel you are lost or questioning the direction you should take. It is not essential but recommended. It can also help you get back to us quicker if you need to by finding an alternative route. Scan this one here to practice.
With your bike you get:
A helmet, but you are welcome to bring your own. It is not a legal requirement of you to wear a helmet but you’re a fool if you don’t. We have plenty available in all sizes.
Storage on the bikes with front or rear pannier bags
If there is a threat of a rain shower during the day we have ponchos you can take with you
In the morning we will spend some time with you teaching the operations of the bike and how to ride safely.
Free Child Seats
We have child seats available to fit to the bikes for 1-5 year olds.
Free Child Trailers
We have a children’s Trailer that fits to the rear axel of the bike. Fits 2 small children or single older child. Max weight is 44KG.
What time do we start?
There are two possible start times, 10am or 11am. With potentially many different bookings at the same time we need to bring you all together for bike training in the morning. You can select either time when making the booking.
What time do we finish?
Typically you should expect to be back between 3:30pm and 5pm. It largely depends on you, how gently you take the ride, how serious you take the questions on the treasure trails and how long you take at the pub stops.
We just ask that you get the bikes back to us before 5pm. We need time to check them and make repairs if necessary ready for the next day.
Each route has some of the finest country pubs around here built into them. Typically each route has a minimum of two pub stops. Depending on the start time you choose one or the other will be the better option for lunch.
It is advised you book a table if you are hiring on the weekends.
You can see the recommended pubs and the suggested times for booking further down the page.
All the trails and routes are 100% on public highways. 99-95% are quiet country lanes. They are not off road routes so you must expect to meet other road users and ride accordingly.
All the routes have been carefully planned to minimise your exposure to traffic, ensure good road surfaces at all times and avoid steep hills.
Off Road Routes & Canal Paths
There is a strong misunderstanding on the suitability. For example there is a canal path just behind our building with good access for us. However, we NEVER send anyone along this path. The path is narrow making passing other cyclists and dog walkers very awkward and hazardous with a body of water along one side. Brambles and bushes grow regularly out into the path and bad weather means the unfinished parts of the path become boggy at best.
Any of our electric bike hiring offers are available to purchase as a GIFT VOUCHER, valid for 12 months from the day of purchase. An ideal present for yourself, the family and friends.
The voucher has no cash value and is non-refundable. When ready to use call us to book the date you want and redeem the voucher. Have your voucher ready when confirming the date of booking, we will need the codes on it.
To Purchase a Gift Voucher select the “GIFT VOUCHER” option on the booking pages. Select first available date, should be today’s date and follow the instructions from there.
Car Parking at Pedego
Parking is available but limited during the week. Please arrive in as few cars as possible.
Find the Pedego P parking signs for where to pull up.
Your start time of 10am or 11am indicates the start of training on the bikes. We have a large traffic free enclosed area for you to start your electric bike experience in before heading out on to the roads. We do reserve the right to not let people go out if we feel you are unsafe on the bike.
The majority of the Trail routes are on quiet country roads. Never-the-less these are still public highways and you need to be a confident cyclist. Please note it is rare we will stop anyone participating but it does happen. The bikes are extremely easy to use and the training in the morning is structured and designed to get you flying in no time. Please note the first and last km of the trials are on a busier road.
If you have made a large group booking ensure all those attending are aware off what they are doing. Find out if anyone has reservations about cycling on the roads and gauge the groups experience, more often than not large groups arrive with 1 or 2 people who are ill prepared.
If you have not ridden a bicycle of any sort for 20 years and are not sure of how confident you will be but would like to do a Trail and have an electric bicycle experience, i would recommend booking a 1 hour cycling lesson with us. We will introduce you to the bikes and take you on a small guided tour to make sure you are 100% happy to take the bike out for the whole day.
£35 per person. Please enquiry for availability by telephone (01453 883261).
If you re-book within 7 days of your electric bike hire you are entitled to a 30% discount.
You can re-book when returning the bikes and equipment or book online.
You will be given a goodie bag at the end of your day. This will include a voucher with a special PROMOCODE for you to input online to access the discount. The PROMOCODE will expire after 7 days.
If you don’t know the date(s) you would like to return, use the GIFT VOUCHER OPTION which are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. When you are ready with the date, let us know and you will be booked in.
We have 16 individual bikes in the rental fleet and 1 tandem bike so can provide for a maximum of 18 people. If your group is slightly larger than this we may still be able to accommodate you so please contact us with your specific requirements. We are able to add up to 4 more electric bikes if given some notice.
Hen and Stag Parties
If you are making arrangements for a hen or stag party in or around the Cotswolds the Cotswold Electric Bike Treasure Trail offers a wonderful opportunity for a memorable outdoor activity.
Most of our electric bike rental options are designed around a full day out on the bikes. From introductory training in the morning at 10 or 11am to returning the bikes before 5pm. Hen and Stag weekends are usually jam packed packed weekends. If you have other things going on we can tailor the routes you go on to meet your time constraints.
The Treasure Trails offer a fun competitive edge to a day out on electric bikes. We can divide you in to teams to compete over the questions. Everyone can meet at lunch and refreshment stops during the day so you are not isolated in teams for the whole day. We have also made arrangements for other activities such as archery set up at a charming location deep in the Cotswold Countryside.
Pub Lunch or Picnic
Booking your lunch stop way in advance is essential for larger groups. We will advise you on the pub to book once your route for the day is determined. Alternatively our picnic offer from Dine with Jules is available for any group size. The cost will be determined based on your numbers and requirements, determined with Dine with Jules directly.
We can set up your picnic in a private location deep in the Cotswold Countryside. All amenities provided in your own private picnic venue.
Large groups often require additional staffing to safely deliver the training in the morning and offer support during the day by escorting your group(s). Additional staff are £120. Speak with us about your requirements for the day to determine if this is needed. Typically if you are a group over 10 people it’s likely to be required.
All of our routes pass by the areas best loved country pubs for refreshments and lunch. Alternatively order a picnic hamper with us to take with you. Supplied by ‘Dine with Jules’, your picnic will be here to collect with your bikes in the morning.
Requires at least 48 hours notice.
The picnic includes a large selection of home and freshly made savoury and sweet delights, homemade raspberry lemonade, picnic blanket and utensils.
The picnic fits inside the pannier bags we provide with the bikes. The food is kept fresh and chilled in the insulated picnic bag with coolers.
Cost is £25 for two people
You can select the picnic option online when making the booking
Large Groups – Picnic Lunch
For larger groups, corporate, hen or stag events a picnic lunch can also be arranged at a private Cotswold location with stunning views and picturesque scenery. Complete with seating and toilet facilities.
Cancellations made by you within 7 days of the booking cannot be refunded.
Cancellations due to bad weather will be refunded to those NOT able to reschedule. For example, if you are on holiday here from another part of the world. For everyone else we will re-schedule the booking with you for another time.
If there is a threat of light rain or showers you should still go out.

To Bisley & Back
Starting from Pedego HQ the first 7km are question free as you head out towards Bisley. From there you snake your way down into the Slad Valley and then up towards Bulls Cross and on to Sheepscombe. From there you come almost full circle with another riding section back to Bisley, this time entering the village before moving on to the Oakridge and then Frampton Mansell. The final section brings you through Chalford before returning to the start.
Avening & Amberley
The second Trail heads broadly South. The first few miles are just for riding to get more accustomed to the bikes until you reach Minchenhampton. From there you push deeper into the Countryside discovering Cherington and Avening. The second part of the trail explores Nailsworth, Horsley and Box before completing the ride through Amberley. Great pub stops and awesome views are plentiful.
Traverse to the Tunnel House
The Tunnel House route is a little shorter than the treasure trails and the other recommended route below. If you have time constraints and would like to return a little earlier for any reason this is an ideal route as an introduction to electric bikes.
The Tunnel House Inn is a recommended destination and lunch stop located in a small Cotswold village called Coates towards Cirencester.
This is a fantastic route with 4 glorious Cotswold country pub stops on the route to choose from. Take your pick or take them all on (responsibly).
The route heads north away from Stroud and soon cuts down into the Slad valley beginning a journey snaking its way around some stunning Cotswold Countryside. From the Slad valley you move into the Painswick valley, entering the small village of Sheepscombe. From there you come back East towards the gorgeous little village of Miserden. From there it’s a long beautiful road to a pub called the Daneway, with a feel of being hidden and secluded form the outside world. From there is a few more miles on to The Crown Inn at Frampton Mansell, one of the areas best loved pubs. After this you’re on the home stretch, with a beautiful ride through the Chalford valley and then on back to Pedego HQ.
Cruise to Cranham
The latest route we have mapped out again showcases some of the best scenery the Cotswolds has to offer. From Pedego HQ you head towards EAST towards Chalford and make your way through the picturesque village and on to Frampton Mansell. Moving further you meet the village of Sapperton before heading north on a beautiful long road cutting through endless countryside. Soon you cut across West towards Cranham, with stunning views apparent as you approach the village. The valley you find yourself in seems isolated and remote. On a sunny day the views cannot be beaten. Quiet country roads meander through the Painswick valley before you meet Sheepscombe. The final stretch brings you into the Slad valley and then it’s a few miles more back to Pedego HQ.
If booking at 10am book your pub lunch at the Butchers Arms in Sheepscombe for 1pm.
Short & Sweet
If your time is limited to half a day or you would like a smaller introductory ride this is the route for you.
